Barbara Hyde Obituary

Barbara Nancy Hyde, 82, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at her home on September 21, 2025. She was born on October 27, 1942, in Centerville, Kansas, to the late William David John Britton and Alsea Elizabeth Fletcher Britton.  On August 22, 1964, Barbara married the love of her life, Dr. Marshall Lawrence Hyde, with whom she shared many wonderful years until his passing. Together, they raised a family rooted in faith, love, and devotion.  Barbara was a proud graduate of KU Medical School and dedicated her life’s work to caring for others as a registered nurse. Her kindness, compassion, and steady presence touched countless lives throughout her career.

Beyond her professional life, Barbara cherished time with her family. She delighted in playing the piano, researching her family’s ancestry, and enjoying the timeless sounds of old-school rock and roll. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her their source of encouragement and warmth. Barbara’s life was guided by her deep love for the Lord, and she will be remembered for her unwavering faith and devotion to her family.

She is survived by her four children: Dave Hyde of Fort Smith, Arkansas; William Hyde (Angelica) of Fort Smith, Arkansas;  Sarah Graves (Mark) of Belcamp, Maryland; and Kathleen Barnes (Jacob) of Springdale, Arkansas. She leaves behind 17 beloved grandchildren: Derek, Matt, Nichole, Michelle, Andrew, Shannan, Marshall, Jazzlin, Patrick, Elizabeth, Lauren, Megan, Victoria, Laney, Kennedy, Grisham, and Harrison; as well as 9 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Deanna, Art, E’lyana, Ka’bria, A’naisa, Jemma, Josie, John, and one more on the way; brother William Britton of Lewis, Kansas; and brother-in-law Don Hyde of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Marshall L. Hyde; her parents, Alsea and David Britton; her daughter, Nancy Hyde, her brother, Gale Britton; and her sister, Kathleen Britton; and great grandchild Malachi Nemon Owens.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Parkview Bible Church, 904 Pine Street, Van Buren, Arkansas 72956.

Barbara will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her love of music and family history, and most of all, for the love she poured into her family and friends.
