Herbert L Lopshire

Herbert Lopshire, 92 of Hindsville passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Willard Walker Hospice in Fayetteville. He was born September 11, 1927 in Los Angeles, California to Norris Lopshire and Alice Day-Lopshire.

Herbert attended Palomar College in San Diego, Ca and then Cal Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Ca, where he played football, rode bulls competitively and studied pre-veterinarian science. He joined US Navy as a medic HA 2nd class in San Diego, Ca, USS block island CVE 106. Sailed to Okinawa, Guam, Pacific Islands and Cuba. He was later stationed at the Naval Hospital in Norfolk, Va. For the love of the game he played scrimmage for the then pro football team Norfolk Shamrocks.

He used his pre-vet skills as a rancher in CA and OR. Managing herds of up to 300 black angus cattle and showing the best of them in competition. In 1979 he moved to Hindsville and had layer hens and growers for Simmons and Georges. He got out of the chicken farms and did security work for Tysons for over 10 years and retired at 87. In his spare time, he loved fishing, coffee shop visits at the country stores, and generously serving others.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice Karbowski; son, Gary Stanley and daughter, Elizabeth Lynn Couch.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lena Lopshire of the home; Sixteen children and step children; Forty-five grandchildren, Fifty-four great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

A Celebration of life service to be held at the Lone Star School House at 10AM in Hindsville on February 29, 2020. Burial will be at the Lopshire Cemetery.

There will also be a Cowboy celebration in town to be held at 12PM, Saturday February 29, 2020 at the First Presbyterian Church of Huntsville hosted by daughter Dolly Headley.

Funeral services are under the direction of Madison County Funeral Service of Huntsville.
