Janet Stanphill

Janet Coeta Stanphill, of Huntsville, passed peacefully into the gates of Heaven, June 17, 2026 at the age of 86. Janet was born to Jesse and Lagretta Hughes on May 28, 1940 in Wichita, Kansas. Their joy was short lived as Janet was the typical middle child, hard-headed, and stubborn. She had an older sister, Loretta Yvonne, and several years later, a baby sister, Donna Renee was born. In 1953, when Janet was only 13, she met the man she would later marry, Dean Stanphill. On February 4, 1956, she and Dean would unite in marriage in the home of her parents. In 1960, they moved to Ontario, California where Dean surrendered the call to preach The Gospel at the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. On August 6, 1962, they welcomed a baby daughter, Ronda, into their lives. Their immense joy was quickly shattered as they realized their sweet little bundle of joy was a screaming, puking, colicky, pain in the behind, for the first 3 months of her life. In 1965, they prayed for a “better” baby. On September 12, 1965, said “better baby” Janna, was born and their family and life was complete. Shortly after the birth of their perfect child, Dean, Janet, and the girls moved to Arkansas where Dean pastored the Southern Baptist Church in Kingston.Janet was a stay at home wife and mother, ridiculously spoiled by Dean. She was known for her lack of patience, not holding back her opinion, and a short temper. All delightful traits she has passed on to her daughters, and granddaughters. When she lost the love of her life February 2, 2019, she adapted to her new life as a connoisseur of lunchables, Hostess Twinkies, and Great Value fudgesicles. She also became quite the fashionista of 2 piece pajamas, which she dearly adored. She had a love/hate relationship with her television remote, so many channels and buttons to push! Janet enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and playing skip-bo with family and friends until her eyesight and health started to decline. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Lagretta Hughes, her husband, Dean Stanphill, and her sister, Loretta Bishop-Price. She is survived by her daughter, Ronda Griffin of Berryville, her daughter Janna and husband Jeff Boyd, of Huntsville, her sister Renee and husband Gary Ditmore of Huntsville. Her grandchildren, Trent Long of Branson, Missouri, Lacy and husband Thomas Cox of Branson, Missouri, Alan Boyd and wife Courtney of Medford, New Jersey, Cassidy and husband Dylan Allen of Blue Eye, and so many nieces and nephews that we can’t remember all of their names. Janet adored her great-grandchildren (for very short periods of time) Colton and Addyson Long, Laney and Landree Fears, Daylan Allen, Kipton Cox, and Baby Boy Boyd due in August. The family will be having a private celebration of life at a later date, as requested by Janet.
