Lena Lopshire Obituary

Lena Mae Ona (Williams) Lopshire

Lena Lopshire, 92 of Hindsville, AR always enjoyed seeing happy news in the Madison County Record paper including her own parties and occasions.  Her last entry of joy to share here is the announcement of peacefully answering her Heavenly Fathers call to come home, completing this earthly journey on Tuesday December 3, 2024 in Springdale, AR under the care of Willard Walker Hospice in Fayetteville, AR.   She was born Sunday January 24, 1932 in Sulphur, OK to Alva Williams and Esther (McCaskill) Williams.

Lenas family moved from OK to CA when she was 5 years old.  She attended school at Pixley Elementary and Delano Highschool that resulted in her having life-long friends also in the 90s club.  Her first marriage was to Martin Stanley in 1949, they had 4 children Gary, Marlena, Rhonda, and Roland.  Years after a divorce she remarried to Herbert Lopshire in 1965.  Herb brought bonus kids Rena, David, Peggy, Geri, Kathy, Lynn, Dolly, and Kenneth.  Together he and Lena had 2 children Linda and Norris.

With several moves from CA to OR to AR back to CA and finally settling in 1979 the family established forever residency at Hindsville, AR to be closer to her in laws Norris and Alice Lopshire. Lena worked as a waitress, and one of the first cooks at the newly opened Valley Inn Café owned then by Grace Lewis, also at Blueberry Hills Restaurant in Rogers and Evelyn's Gourmet in Eureka. She also worked sales at a women’s fashion boutique. During these years she and Herb managed their layer hens and grower hens for both Simmons and Georges.  While Lena loved being in the work-force she was very much an established homemaker, with an immense passion for her family. Helping the kids with 4H Club and attending many school trips for her kids and grandchildren later in life. She and Herb attended many Saturday Supper dinners up at the Lone Star School House enjoying the warmth and community of so many longtime friends as they gathered there.  Participating at local pie supper fund raisers she would bake a pie just for Herb to out bid anyone on the pie and then give it to the next in line bidder.  Since the early ‘70s she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW.  Lena attended Church of Christ at Clifty and then at Forum, dragging with her on many a Sundays a grandkid(s).  She also loved to pick up her little lady widow friends that did not drive any longer and escort them to church.

Her passions in life were loving and serving family and friends, cooking, giving tours of her flower gardens, sitting on her front porch or up in the sunshine of the shed and visiting with a good dessert and cup of coffee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers W. L. Williams and James Doyle Williams, her son Gary Stanley, bonus daughter Elizabeth Lynn Couch, and her husband Herbert L Lopshire of 55 adventurous wedded years before he was called home to be with the Lord.

Survivors include from their blended his, hers, their family of twelve children, forty-five grandchildren, fifty-eight great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren, beloved nieces, nephews, and treasured friends.

Remembered by her unconditional love, resilience, sharp wit and generosity, Lena made an impact on everyone she met.  She will be deeply missed by her family and friends until we see her again.

A Celebration of Life is to be held at the Lone Star School House in Hindsville, AR at 11:00 AM on Saturday December 21, 2024, family will receive friends one hour prior to service.  Burial will follow at the Lopshire Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to Willard Walker Hospice staff, to Judith Day and Peggy Hughes for helping care for Lena during the week days this giving her the ability to be in the comfort of her home.
