Minnie Catherine Kale, 92, formerly of Huntsville, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2023 at her home in Delcambre, Louisiana. She was born July 13, 1931 in Hudson, North Carolina, the 5th of 12 children born to Rufus Lee Hass and Bertha Mae (Bolinger) Hass. She moved to Huntsville from Louisiana in the early 80’s with her husband, K.D. They lived in the Aurora community raising turkeys for Cargill and operating a small cattle farm. She was a long-time member of the Aurora Church of Christ. She was known as “Mom, Granny, and Miss Catherine”. She loved to quilt, read, and garden. She will be remembered for her delicious cooking, especially blackberry cobbler and jambalaya. Many people were gifted her fried pies when she ran her weekly errands around Huntsville. She worked hard all of her life but never lost her appreciation for the natural beauty and wonders of the woods and hills.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Kenneth “K.D.” Kale; her son, Richard Warren Hass; daughter-in-law Donna Landry Hass; a granddaughter, Shannon Marie Avery; five brothers including Marvin, Marshall, Thad, Truitt, and Ben, all of North Carolina; four sisters including Millie, Lois, Annie, and Ruby, all of North Carolina.
Survivors include her son Clayton Kale and wife Cyndy of Delcambre, Louisiana; her daughter, Dianne Atwood of Huntsville; four grandsons including Shawn Rowe of Missouri, Jeremiah and Jacob Kale of Arkansas, and Brad Hass of Louisiana; five granddaughters including Paula Sing and Page Chavez of Louisiana, Rene Cates, Nocona Dodson, and Carson Roddy of Arkansas; twenty-eight great grandchildren; nineteen great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Shirley Hass of Lenoir, North Carolina and Gladys Hass of Summerville, South Carolina.
The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 29, 2023 at the Aurora Church of Christ in Huntsville, Arkansas with Pat Mannon and Jim Houchins officiating. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Aurora Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jacob Kale, Logan Roddy, Sam Roddy, Jake Roddy, Peyton Dodson, and Chris Jones. Honorary pallbearers are Casey Sing, Brad Hass, and Cade Roddy.
Funeral services are under the direction of Madison County Funeral Service of Huntsville.
