Sara Cappello Obituary

On March 2, 2024, Sara Elizabeth Coleman Capppello passed away unexpectedly at age 83. She was a devoted and beloved mother to six children. She was born in Fields, La. on March 19, 1940 to mother, Ila  Edna Craft and father, Cecil Coleman. She grew up in Fields and Merryville La with 6 siblings. When Sara was 9, her mother died and she and her siblings were split up for several years. Then Cecil married Mamie Yellott and the children were reunited as a family again. When Sara was 16, she worked at the Crystal Cafe in Oakdale, La where she met serviceman Frank Cappello from New York. In 1956, they married in Merryville, La and then moved to Mt. Vernon, NY where they raised six children until 1975.

Sara's greatest love was her children and family. After moving to Texas in 1975 she tried to find work to support her children, who were still school age. In 1976 Sara entered the workforce as the first female overhead crane operator for North Star Steel in Vidor, Texas. Sara was strong willed, hardworking and a woman of integrity. Soon after, she purchased her very first home on Tram Road in Vidor, Tx. Her home was always open to her children's friends, many even called her "mom". Sara had a heart of gold and she never met a stranger. After she retired, she loved to go RV'ing with her grandchildren. She camped in many state parks and forests, caves, and mined for diamonds at the Crater of the Diamonds State Park with her grandchildren. Sara was very spiritual, adventurous, outgoing, artistic, creative, and passionate about her family. She loved reading storybooks to her young grandchildren and taught them to be kind, loving and also courageous. She was an inspiration to many of her nieces who followed her example of being independent and listening to her heart. Sara especially inspired her eldest niece, Sandra O'Brien, who followed her from NY to Texas.

In 1999 Sara moved to St. Paul, Arkansas with her sister Guynell, where she lived for several years. Then she moved to Elkins, Arkansas where she lived amidst 12 acres of the Ozark wilderness. Sara's brothers Jack & Carl lived in Arkansas too and she loved having them close by. Sara loved gardening, feeding the birds, and even raised ducks and chickens for a while. In recent years, she loved surfing the internet and keeping in touch with her extended family on facebook.

Sara is preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Frank Cappello Sr; 2 sons, Frank Cappello Jr and Carey Cappello; one sister and three brothers. Survivors include her two daughters, Marilyn (Cappello) Cupak and husband Andrew of Port Authur, TX and Cathy Cappello and husband John Bergeron of Elkins; two sons, Anthony Cappello of Elkins and Joe Cappello of Vidor, TX; two brothers, Jack Coleman and wife Shirlene of Prairie Grove and Phillip Coleman and wife Diane of New Jersey; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Madison County Funeral Service of Huntsville.
