Agnes Stoisch Farley, 92, passed away at Countryside Assisted Living in Huntsville, Arkansas on June 28, 2018, surrounded by loved ones. She lived her life with great perseverance, fortitude and a deep love of family. Agnes was devoted to her husband of 63 years, Clarence, who preceded her in death November 2017.
Agnes was born January 2, 1926 in the town of Schrotkirch, Kreis (County) Gleiwitz, Oberschlesien (Upper Silesia), Deutchland (Germany) which since 1936 is named Pniow, Poland. Her father, a blacksmith on a large estate, died when Agnes was six years old. Life was very hard for the large family. Agnes completed typing and shorthand training and worked for a utility company that moved underground during WWII. As the Russians approached in early 1945, the five Stoisch women wisely decided to flee to a brother’s home in Erding near Munich. Agnes and her mother traveled by horse and wagon over the mountains to Prague, by train to Vienna and then to safety in Munich. After WWII ended, she worked for the Armed Forces of the United States there until 1952 when she immigrated to Montreal, Canada, where she continued to use her business skills. Agnes married an American serviceman and her son and sister, Hildegard, joined her in Montreal from Germany. The marriage would not last and Agnes fought in court for a divorce rather than the requested annulment giving her the right to immigrate to the U.S. She met the love of her life, Clarence, on a blind date in Crum, WVA where her son’s grandparents lived. They married September 18, 1954. The couple had a daughter and the family of four lived in Columbus, OH, where Agnes contributed to the family income by waitressing and shrewd money management. The couple retired to Arkansas in 1978. Agnes enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, baking, sewing, needlecrafts, traveling, and shopping. She has left a legacy of tenacity, strength, and love.
Agnes was also preceded in death by her parents, Josef and Marie (Bomba) Stoisch; sisters Hildegard (Dobbyn), Margaret, Katherine, and Helen; brothers Hans (Resi), Richard, Josef and two other brothers and sisters that died at birth; and son-in-law Jon Reinhard.
She is survived by her son Charles (Nancy) Farley; daughter Mary Jo Reinhard; grandchildren Shana (Randy) Salsbury, Charles (Michelle) Farley Jr., Melissa (Vance) Stewart, Jessica and Dana Paugh; niece Helen Warzecha and nephews Horst (godson), Heine, and Hans Stoisch. Agnes is also survived by six great-grandsons, two great-great-granddaughters, great-nieces and great-nephews, and a brother-in-law. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all.
Agnes was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huntsville. She was strong in her faith and has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church, 309 Church St, Huntsville, AR 72740. Visitation will be prior to service. Burial will be at Clifty Cemetery. Funeral Services are under the direction of Madison County Funeral Service of Huntsville.
